Title: "Walaay Dreaming" Nurturing our Dhiiyaan and Cultural responsibilities on the Kamilaroi Plains"

This artwork unfolds a part of the story of the Quirindi community, entwining the essence of our home with the rich knowledges of Kamilaroi people living on the plains. The vibrant ochre hues echo the spirits of our Ancestors, grounding us in the wisdom passed from the Stories and lessons told and learned before us guiding our steps with a legacy of care for this sacred land. The yellow ochres resonate with the continuation of our roles and responsibilities, a reminder of the importance of the next generation growing strong in spirit, proud in culture and confident to continue the nurturing of our country. White ochre embodies the watching eyes of our children, absorbing the stories, learning, and growing in the embrace of community.

At the heart lies a meeting place honoring Elders whose circles birthed the community. Radiating outward, the artwork embraces outlining communities, mirroring the interconnected walking tracks that unite our nests across the Liverpool Plains.

The flow of Quirindi creek, a flow of life from the Mooki, symbolizes our resilient culture, thriving when nourished by the echoes of our stories and the resonance of our voices. The hills cradle Dhinawan (Emu) and Bandaarr (Kangaroo) tracks, emblematic of the plains' natural rhythm. Leaves on the hills unravel a tale, a story yet pieced together, unveiling the significance of a tree special to Quirindi.

The intricate network of small creeks branching from our feeder waterway offers abundant fishing opportunities, while the fertile soils yield bountiful foods, ensuring our mob thrives. "Walaay," meaning Nest, encapsulates the profound significance of this place the beautiful Kamilaroi plains, where stories intertwine, and culture flourishes.

DISCLAIMER: The stories told in this artwork were shared by Elders who live in the Liverpool Plains during community cultural gatherings as well as stories shared with Krystle through her life growing up on the Liverpool Plains. Many different stories with many different meanings all connecting in some way to the story that Country also shares with us.
